This whole area of Andalucia is a very firm favourite with birdwatchers as we are on the annual migration routes. Apart from the abundant birdlife at Finca Amorosa, Hoopoes being our favourite visitor, two important sites are nearby.
- El Torcal Nature Park some 15 minutes' drive away, famous for it's ''haunting'' rock sculptures this high plateau of glaciated limestone can be explored by three signposted walks. Keep an eye on the sky as the resident population of Griffon Vultures will be soaring overhead, also other large raptors can be seen.
- Fuente de Piedra which is 45 minutes' drive is an important wetland with up to 11,000 nesting pairs of Flamingoes. The rounding up of chicks for ringing takes place in August, many overseas visitors register as volunteers for this task. In recent years this area has become an important attraction for nature tourism. To aid bird watching the many trails around the Lagoon have strategically placed ''hides''. There is a very informative visitor center on site.
Excellent golf is available at Antequera Golf Club just 25 minutes away, not only a fantastic day's golf but probably the best value golf on the costa del golf. If required we can offer a fully catered bespoke golf holiday for four or more guests. This would include full board, organization and transport to play on three different courses. Please contact us for more details.
The world heritage sites of the Alhambra Palace in Granada and the Grand Mosque in Cordoba are within easy reach (90 min each by car). It is possible to catch a bus to Malaga to visit the wonderful old town with its Cathedral, Picasso museum and Alcazaba. Not to mention the boutique shops, tapas bars and the newly built promenade off the port area. Also a visit to the Malaga municipal market offers a taste of all the produce that Spain has to offer.
This is a fantastic fun day out, the drive is one hour through the small town of Valle de Abdalajis. Then after passing through El Chorro gorge you drive through the pine forests of Park Natural Ardalis , when you arrive at the lakes the views will quite take your breath away. There are a selection of restaurants or take a picnic, your choice as the lakeside is laid out with concrete tables and benches under towering pine trees for shade. Hire a Kayak, relax and just paddle away, or alternatively hire a Paddle boat with slide and have great fun with friends and family.
A fantastic way to get close to nature and enjoy the Andalucian countryside. Both riding lessons and "Trail Riding" offered by local riding stables.
We will be pleased to enquire on your behalf for any other information that you may require and make a reservation on your behalf.
For this activity we strongly suggest you book in advance. For more details go to Horse Riding.
